Lynne Lomofsky
Lynne Lomofsky is a Cape Town-based artist.
As well as being an experienced art educator and mentor, she has been a practising artist for over 30 years. She has worked across genres and media, including installation, textile screenprinting, drawing on paper, and painting (including oil on canvas and mixed media on canvas). Currently, after severe changes to her visual field and other visual losses, she has adapted her practice, concentrating on small-scale paintings on paper and board in mixed media (acrylic paints, gouache, ink and coloured pencil). Her works on paper and board have encompassed still life and portraits, while recently settling on botanical paintings of Cape wild flowers.
She is inspired by the natural world. Her daily dog walks in her local coastal environment, specifically the beaches and the Zandvlei Estuary Nature Reserve in Muizenberg, where she lives and works in her home studio, provide the subject matter for her work. Wild flowers grow on the dunes and in the sand of the vlei. These invite fresh inspiration daily. She will hand pick a flower or two and return to the studio where she can study their shapes, patterns and colours, and explore and understand them through drawing and painting.
